“Going Green” – A guide to going Vegetarian/Vegan

Welcome to a Veggie Life! On this epic journey of eating more vegetables or going vegetarian/vegan you will learn a lot about food and about yourself. For instance, did you know not all veggies are created equal?

Why vegetarian/vegan?

Before we get into the thick of things, let me ask you a question. Why are you “Going Green” (becoming vegetarian/vegan)? If you haven’t decided on a “why” yet, I highly recommend that you decide, for you, your “Going Green” goals.

What are your “Going Green” goals?

Well, it could be a simple as adding one vegetarian or vegan meal to your diet to see if you could stomach this veggie living. Or maybe even improving your veggie content in your existing diet. Or, gasp, trying to stick to this decision that you have made to never go back to where you were again.

My Story: Going Vegetarian/Vegan

If you read my bio you may have found that I went from vegetarian to meat eater and now I’m swinging back to a Plant-Based diet. Growing up in a vegan household I grew to enjoy vegan dishes. Having meat-eating friends I was allowed to eat whatever I wanted.

Then I moved from a vegan household to a meat-eating household. That transition was hard. After, I attended a University that served a vegetarian diet and found myself enjoying that immensely while squeezing in a Russian sausage/ meat lovers pizza every week when I was off-campus.

The older I got, the less tolerant my body became with meat products from dairy to actual meat. A major operation and health scare almost two years ago had me seriously looking at how I can get control over my weight, energy and general health. That, in a nutshell, is my veggie life journey.

What can you get from my contributions? Great transition recipes, substitutes that are tried and tested, reviews of the available vegan/vegetarian dishes available locally (I live in South Africa), yummy vegan desserts, and lots of YouTube video links from plant-based doctors and specialists. At the end of the day, what works for you is what you need to figure out.

Is it worth it, going green? Absolutely! Will a veggie lifestyle improve your life? Probably, but don’t take my word for it, try it!

I am here for you; to answer questions you might have. I am here to share what I have learned over the last three decades on food. I hope that we can enjoy this journey together.

It can be done. It can be done with enjoyment. Veggies are yummy!

Here’s to a beautiful and enriching veggie life!
